Ideas for Designing the Ultimate Teen Bedroom

For teenagers, their bedroom is the place to call their own. Beyond sleeping, their room is an area where they study, hang out with friends, listen to music, or just escape for some privacy. They’re discovering new interests and hobbies while developing their sense of personal style. Long gone are the days of pinned-up Tiger Beat posters, so we’ve compiled some bedroom decorating ideas to help your teen creatively express their personality.

The Athlete

For highly active teens, being a part of a sports team often defines these all-important years. The sense of community associated with sports teams often make teens feel at home, and their bedroom is a great place to reflect that pride. But, be sure to start small. Whether it’s sports memorabilia like signed athlete jerseys, bedding that coordinates with their favorite professional team, or display cases that showcase personal trophies and accomplishments, leave room to add more as their love for the sport grows or their hobbies expand.

The Social Butterfly

If your teen has an active social calendar, their bedroom is a place with plenty of room for guests to lounge. Bean bags, hanging chairs, video gaming seats, or a comfy sofa make their bedroom a cool place to gather. Have your teen select their favorite paint color, and add a complementary rug to personalize the space. Throw in some snacks and your teen has the best hangout spot in town. It may even ensure you see your teen once in a while!

The Adventurer

Let your teen’s love for the great outdoors inspire their room décor with earthen colors, natural textures, and creative accessories. To give their room a nature-friendly vibe, accent a wall with easy-to-install wood planks or add some low-maintenance indoor plants. Stained-wood furniture compliments the look and provides the foundation for accessories that represent their favorite outdoor activities, be it camping, fishing, or hanging out at the beach.

The Bohemian

The whimsical styles of the past have returned, both in fashion and décor. For an indie bedroom, focus on color, pattern, and creativity. Mix bold patterned comforters with solid throws, while your teen chooses some vintage-inspired furniture and accessories to personalize their space. Finish the look by hanging some warm, filtered string lights and adorning the walls with funky art prints.

      Hello Toll Bros design team,

My family and I recently moved into a Toll Brothers-built home in the Eisenhower Square division in Alexandria, Virginia. When first looking at buying here and walking through the model home at 168 Ike Drive, Alexandria, VA 22314, I was very taken with an adjustable bean bag chair that is in the young kids’ bedrooms on the third floor (the room with the “outdoor camping” interior decorating theme). The chair is light gray-ish in color; it is not round and spherical like many bean bag chairs, but is rectangular with two adjustable straps on either side connecting the bottom and top of the chair so that it sits almost upright and provides great back support.

It is very comfortable and I’d love to get one of the same kind for our home now that we’re moved in. In the several times I have been through the model home, however, I have checked that bean bag for a label of some kind that shows the manufacturer and type. I have not found anything on it that would help me identify it, nor have I been able to find it in my own searches on the internet.

I am wondering if you are able to find out who makes the bean bag in that room so I can order my own from the manufacturer.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.
