Supporting PRIDE

Everyone, every day, has the right to be who they are and to be treated with dignity, both personally and professionally.

In celebration of Pride Month, Toll Brothers is proud to support the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) community.

Building Communities Within Toll Brothers

Our culture at Toll Brothers is founded on principles of respect, integrity, and care. It's written into our values: Take Care of Each Other and Do the Right Thing.

As part of our commitment to these values, Toll Brothers supports several Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), which are employee-led groups serving to celebrate diverse backgrounds, create workplace connections, enhance personal and professional development, and contribute to our internal community as well as the communities in which we work. These ERGs include: BELIEVE (Black Employees Leading Inclusion, Excellence, Vision, and Education), Toll Brothers Women's Network, Veterans at Toll Brothers, and MOSAIC (Multicultural Organization Supporting an Inclusive Culture).

In 2019, we launched The Toll Brothers PRIDE Network. This ERG aims to make Toll Brothers a great place to work for current and future LGBTQ+ employees and their allies, and to help our company support the LGBTQ+ community.

"When I started at Toll, I wanted to be completely open. And thankfully, I have always felt accepted and never felt I was judged due to my sexual orientation... I hope by having the Toll Brothers PRIDE ERG and by voicing our own personal stories, we can help someone out there, someone who may be struggling, know that they have the full support of the company behind them."

"Toll Brothers PRIDE provides social and networking forums for all our LGBTQ employees and allies. Our monthly meetings have included meaningful conversations about coming out stories and sharing by parents/siblings about their own journey as family members come out or transition."

The Power of Purpose

Through its ERG program and with the help of so many talented, committed employees, Toll Brothers has made great strides in facilitating important conversations within our workforce and with the greater community beyond. The following are some of the PRIDE/LGBTQ+ initiatives that Toll Brothers has been proud to support, from community outreach to internal events to benefits offerings for our employees.

PRIDE Month

We celebrate and support our LGBTQ+ community throughout the year. However, in June, we take extra pride in amplifying our support even further. Each year, in partnership with The Toll Brothers PRIDE Network, we organize a range of initiatives to commemorate Pride month and honor the LGBTQ+ community.

"This company has a great culture, and it is important for all of us to build on that culture with our actions and our efforts to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to be themselves and live their lives in a way that brings them happiness. That's why events like today are so important. They help employees know that it's ok to be who you want to be at Toll Brothers. Whoever that is, and whenever you're ready. We will support you."

National Coming Out Day

Sharing one's truth and finding acceptance is pivotal in every facet of life, including the workplace. For several years, the PRIDE Network has raised awareness about the significance and difficulty of coming out by sharing videos and stories from employees on National Coming Out Day. Recently, our Chief Human Resources Officer, Kellie Hall, interviewed Jim Fielding, author of All Pride No Ego, for an inspirational National Coming Out day event. It was a great discussion about workforce changes that positively impact LGBTQ+ employees and tips for allies.

Educational Opportunities

Awareness goes hand in hand with education when building a strong culture of diversity and inclusion. We invite leaders to seminars where they learn about the importance of creating an inclusive culture, along with key LGBTQ+ topics. To help employees understand pronouns and why they are so important to the LGBTQ+ community, we wrote a story for our intranet called "Why Pronouns Matter" and then encouraged employees to share their pronouns on their internal employee profile.

Employee Benefits

Health and wellbeing are critical to happy, productive employees, and it's important to consider the needs of every employee in our employee benefit offerings, which include:

  • Medical plans that include coverage for gender affirmation surgery, and related drug therapy and counseling
  • An LGBTQ+ Benefits Guide, accessible on our intranet, designed to assist LGBTQ+ employees in exploring relevant benefits without having to disclose their identity
  • Gender Identity Transition Guide which helps ensure that across the organization, transitioning employees are supported by leaders, colleagues, and Human Resources
  • Parity in paid parental leave and adoption assistance for birth parents and non-birth parents following the birth of an employee's child or the adoption of a child
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offered at no cost to employees and their dependents for support, resources, and counseling on professional and personal topics, including LGBTQ+ issues

Toll Brothers is a supporter of Build Out Alliance, which promotes and advocates for the LGBTQ+ community within the building design and construction industry, and The Trevor Project, which provides crisis support services for LGBTQ+ youth.

Local to our corporate headquarters in Pennsylvania, we are part of our Montgomery County LGBT Business Council, which provides support to the Montgomery County business community through education, training, professional development, and policy advocacy.

Additionally, through our Toll Brothers PRIDE ERG, our employees have participated in several service days and fundraisers with Covenant House Pennsylvania, which helps homeless young people, of which the LGBTQ+ community makes up a disproportionately high population, become healthy, happy, responsible, productive, and ultimately independent adults. From Sleep Outs to career conversations and mock interviews, our employees are helping to address this key issue and supporting homeless youth.

A Commitment to Accountability

Since Toll Brothers was founded in 1967, we have taken seriously our responsibilities to the broader communities in which we build and to the environment. Whether this involves thoughtful land planning, sustainable land stewardship, and decreasing our impact on climate change or creating an inclusive culture and supporting local organizations, we are committed to building beautiful communities in a way that enhances both the lives of residents of these communities and the employees that make them possible.

In 2021, Toll Brothers published its first Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report. This report uses industry-specific standards from the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board and outlines the company's commitment to an ongoing program to measure data, set priorities, and implement practices addressing key social issues such as diversity, equity, and inclusion.
